The Spatial Analyst extension adds functionality in ArcGIS Desktop for the analysis and processing of raster data.
Some treatments, such as the creation and analysis of watersheds, can only be realize with raster data.
Raster Data are just a rectangle made up of pixels each having a numerical value representing geographic data (elevation, slope, distance costs, etc.)
Vector data can be combined and even converted into raster data, to obtain high-level analyzis.
The extension can be use with all types ArcGIS Desktop license (ArcView, ArcEditor, and ArcInfo).
